overall disappointment
have owned this phone three weeks. consider myself fairly technologically astute, a quick study, willing to invest the time to play and learn. the phone itself is physically pleasing, visually and ergonomically, but the menus and OS are some of the most convoluted and user unfriendly i've encountered in any gadget. tie-ins with nokia account and ovi files are hopeless. by the time you create user names and passwords, get their emails which direct you somewhere else-then figure out the dif between the pc suite and ovi suite, only to be told 'before doing this, download the latest software update for your device', with no link or indication of how to do that..then get a text to your device which leads nowhere...download tons of programs to the 'puter then sync it up with the device...almost always hitting an impenetrable snag... it is a all hopeless and disconnected mishmash...i've had at least six emails from nokia/ovi in my inbox for weeks, proceed to their links describing all the ways i can sync up my phone and 'puter and downloads i can use and in spite of great effort have nothing but wasted time and frustration to show for it...everything's a wind-up and dead end...have never seen so much offered (multiple map systems, messaging and email aps all overlapping and confusing...with charges accruing for every little cul de sac and dead end maneuver you investigate...whole point of this phone for me was the no contract ability to tap into internet on free wifi...but this has been a complete failure everywhere except my own home...it's located and identified in other places but a box always comes up asking for pre-shared WEP or WAN codes before proceeding...sorting things out in the phone's menus and options is so convoluted and anti-intuitive that in spite of hours of experimentation the past two weeks i've almost nothing to show for it...
on the plus side i have purchased the otter cover (nice) and cable and memory card, put a little music on it, the intranet and internet radio are nice...call quality is middling...and to wrap up the manual is a hundred and twenty pages of almost unlimited things you can do with this marvelous device...ninety nine and a half percent of which the average (or above) person will never figure out...you will watch the iphone commercials and drool at the beauty and simplicity missing on this device...but hey whatdaya want for a buck twenty...?

Not all it's hpyed to be
I needed a phone. I have never owned a nokia before. I have owned mororolas, which I have been very happy with, and a blackberry. I thought that this phone was reasonably priced for what it said it could do. I am disappointed with the phone. My contacts would not come over with the sim card. I had to use the bluetooth device and send them over individually manually. Next, I am not into the games and synchronisation of my outlook or anything like that, but I do not find the screen userfriendly. The phone's navigation is a nightmare and after four days' trial with the phone I still cannot get it 'personalised'. I cannot get my home screen to display the icons that I would like it to. I was able to navigate the blackberry and motorola easily without the manual. The motorola phone I have is still working even though the phone fell and the back came loose.
In summary, I prefer the Blackberry or motorola for e-mail retrieval and synchronisation of outlook.

Great Unlocked Smartphone
I got this smartphone in color black from somewhere else as a bundle with the bluetooth headset when it first came out.
Aesthetics
Personally, I prefer the black tone color of the body then the red/blue. It makes it look professional and less of a "candy bar." The whole exterior casing of the phone is soft and siliconed, unlike Nokia's E71's metal casing. In terms of thickness, sure, the E63 model is slightly thicker than E71.
Features
This phone lacks an internal GPS, has a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, has an ambient light sensor (turns on keyboard light when lighting is dim/dark), has a voice recorder, calendar, Wi-fi capable, and lacks a volume rocker control on the side. It would have been great if you can control the volume without entering through the menu on the phone.
Functionality
Like all smartphones, it has a full QWERTY keyboard and the keys feel just right when pressed (keys are raised with hard texture), although the space bar is quite small. What's so great about this E series is that it is cheaper than the E71 and offers similar functionality (sans the GPS) of the E71.
Currently, the purchase of this phone includes Nokia Mail (a free service), which is similar to Blackberry Mail where mail is pushed directly to the phone within minutes of receiving new mail). Setup for mail works flawlessly with Gmail and other 3rd party IMAP accounts. However, the phone came with the old version of Nokia Mail (doesn't download whole email messages automatically; only fetches mail headers), so you will need to manually download the new version of Nokia Mail in the OVI store.
Applications
The Novia OVI store is accessible for this phone and you can download free apps and purchase premium apps conveniently on your phone. You can also download OVI free maps for this phone even though it lacks a GPS. Just make sure to upgrade to the latest phone's firmware via Nokia OVI suite for PC on your computer. Some must-have apps include Google Mobile, Google Maps, and Opera Mini internet browser.
Compatibility
This phone works on AT&T's 3G network and T-Mobile's EDGE network only. Just to clarify for newcomers, this phone will not work on Verizon and Sprint networks.
Accessories
Two things that didn't come included were a micro sdhc memory card and a microusb connecting cable, the cable which can be easily purchased for about . (I would have given 5 stars if it came with the cable at least).
Overall, this Nokia smartphone is economically priced for a smartphone that offers a bunch of features.

very exciting phone
i bought this phone and am still learning of all the features ......nokia is really the best phone company.......plus i did not take long to get it and it came within 3 days..thanks amazon

Are you serious?!
Its hard to find a phone that does everything you want it to. Ive been looking for a phone with a good qwerty keyboard and accuracy because im a heavy text messenger. This phone delivers on that and more. So much capability with this phone from GPS to Video calls for this price its almost a steal. I was skeptical about ordering this phone at first because if I dont like it im too lazy to send it bacc. But take it from a picky buyer. You cant go wrong with the E-63
