nothing special, overpriced

Reviewer: cathy,
I was hoping this would be a great antidote to my occasional carpal tunnel. It's not. I already have a mouse pad with a wrist rest "bump" and that does the trick better than this, which isn't as elevated or as supportive. I am disappointed with this item and cannot recommend it.

Great product!

Review Date: March 9, 2010
Reviewer: g2010, CA
I have purchased two sets. During the several months since purchase I had no problems with these headphones. They work great for watching TV. Sound quality is very good. Battery life is long enough for watching a couple of shows and then you can recharge it until the next time. The system allows for the use of two headphones on the same receiver which is a very nice feature. The headphones tend to be a bit heavy on the ears after a couple of hours but other than that, I have no complaints (not a big issue though).
Not what I expected

Reviewer: dothedu,
There is simply too much background noise when there isn't any music playing, and even when there is music on, I could still hear the buzzing noise. If this is true of all wireless models, then I would rather stick to wired headphones.
great product, except the range is overestimated in a building made of concrete.

great product. sounds great. works out of the box. no problems. bought these for long range listening, i haven't tried them in a wood building, but in my concrete building i.e. work, they have a max 40ft range. take this into consideration before you buy. otherwise great product. if i had to buy em again? i wouldn't. I just get a good set of headphones and a sandisk clip + with microsd card. just my opinion.

Probably the best introductory book out there on wireless

Review Date: August 25, 2009
Reviewer: Fry Boy, Orlando, FL USA
I broke down and bought this book because the information I found on the Internet regarding wireless security never seemed to put together a comprehensive explanation of everything I wanted to know. This book will tell you all about wireless connection at home and elsewhere. The dangers, risks and ways to protect yourself. It even recommends various software applications (most of them free) that you can use to check out all the wireless packets streaming through the air. WireShark was one such application. I was shocked to see Outlook transmit my webmail username and password pop up! Now I just check my mail through my webmail online (i.e. via an https:// address).

Taught me how to secure my wireless router. Now I have a secured network with an ultralong password. No neighbors will be hopping onto my home network any longer.

This book also tells you how you can prevent your network from being broadcast. Also discusses the pros and cons of that.

Remember, if your cable company showed up, gave you a wireless router and made sure you could check your e-mail and surf the 'net, you probably don't have a secure network. Also, in order to change your wireless router's username and password, you've got to connect a CAT5 cable from the back of your computer to the back of the wireless router (which is connected to your cable modem [i.e. that thing with the coaxial cable jack in it]). The back of the wireless router most likely has the router's default username and password on it. Once you're jacked in to the router, go to your computer's "Start" menu, select "Programs," "Accessories," "Command Prompt." When the window pops up, type in "ipconfig" followed by . Copy down all that info, 'cause you'll need it to change your wireless router's username and password. Now, open an internet browser and type in the Internet link on the back of the router to get things started. Just one of the things you can learn if you look hard enough or buy this book.

"The Book of Wireless" is definitely worth the money if you want to become a lot wireless savvy. Highly recommended. Also covers wireless devices such as PDAs and smartphones.
Superb book considering the intended audience

Review Date: March 12, 2009
Reviewer: Tom Carpenter, Marysville, OH
In my opinion, this book is the best single book for non-techies who want to setup wireless networks, connect to wireless networks, or simply understand them better. The book does cover many technical aspects of Wi-Fi and broadband wireless, but not at the levels of depth required by the technical professional; however, that is not the target audience, so that is no a weakness.

I really wanted to give the book five stars, but I could not because of one errant phrase with huge implications. On page 152, when giving a high-level overview of wireless security options, the author says, "TKIP is the stronger of the two, so it's usually the better choice." This would be accurate if TKIP was being compared to the original WEP in 802.11-1997; however, the author compares TKIP with AES and then makes this statement. There is no debate over the fact that AES is stronger, when used with WPA (proprietary) or WPA2. I'm sure this is a remnant of the first edition when TKIP was likely compared with WEP, but this single statement can certainly lead to a lot of unnecessary less secure installations.

That statement aside, the book is very well written, easy to understand, and it provides the depth of coverage needed for the average user or the technical user who doesn't want to master everything there is to know about wireless.
Decent intro to wireless

Review Date: May 23, 2008
Reviewer: Andrew, Wilmington, MA USA
This is not a book for professionals by any stretch. The book is for novices to intermediate-level users. There are several inaccuracies and omissions. For example, the author cites EDGE as the only alternative to EV-DO. This is false, and EDGE is an aging technology that is being used less and less. GSM has its own 3G, HSDPA. The book doesn't mention this, and confuses it with EDGE. As for omissions, the book doesn't mention WPA2, the most secure wireless encryption technology available. The book mentions WPA, and talks about its pitfalls. It doesn't even mention WPA2, which has been available for a few years now. It should have been mentioned in the 1st edition, but it didn't even make it into the 2nd edition.

This is a decent book for beginners, but be wary of the inaccuracies. Don't go into a cellphone store and ask for the 'fancy top-of-the-line' EDGE cellphones when there are much faster alternatives. I've seen these mistakes with only a cursory glance over the book, so take the whole book with a grain of salt.

The book should also be called 'The Book of Wi-fi'. The majority of the book is about Wi-fi. There are only a few short chapters at the end about cellular wireless (which aren't even accurate as I've said earlier). If you're looking for a complete book of wireless (Bluetooth and such) this is not the book for you.
useful resource for wireless tech

Review Date: April 30, 2008
Reviewer: D. Graham, Wakefield, UK
An excellent guide to the mysteries of broadband wireless networks. It's pretty comprehensive, covering everything from the basics of networking, how wi-fi actually works, the various types of hardware you'll need and encounter, through to chapters on the hot topics of wireless security and wireless on your smartphone.

The text itself is friendly and clear, with great examples strewn throughout. There's a lot of depth to the explanations too - everyone from a techie to a wifi novice will find useful information in this book. There's a great chapter on installing and configuring your wifi access points, which covers everything you'll need to know. Other chapters are slightly more specialised, for example the one on long-range point-to-point links - interesting stuff, but aimed at the more advanced level. There are detailed chapters on setting up wifi for Windows, Mac and Linux - nice to see all three covered in detail.

The book moves onto with a look at the alternatives to wifi - EDGE, EV-DO, WiMax and so on, before finishing off with chapters on smartphones/PDAs and VPNs. Rounded off with a short but useful troubleshooting section, this book really does cover everything you'd need to know about wireless technology
For any Wireless User

Reviewer: William G. Keys Jr., NY
"The Book of Wireless" by John Ross is an answer to the problem of learning about wireless networking. With the wide spread use of Wireless networks today anyone with a computer should at least know the basics of wireless. Also, with the wireless networking, users need to know how to protect themselves from wireless networking attacks.

Ross's book provides a general but detailed look at all parts of wireless on all different platforms and environment. The reader will gain an understanding of all parts of wireless networking, from physical layer to the application layer of networking with examples of setting up their own wireless network. The author explains why users need to take measures in securing their wireless networks. This book is intended for reader's who want to learn more about wireless networking. Those who are thinking about using wireless to the user who has already setup a home wireless network will find this book useful.

The first three chapters in the "The Book of Wireless" provides the reader with an introduction to networking and wireless. The author talks about the OSI Model, physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation, and application layers. These chapters would be a good introduction to any computer networking class. It gives the reader the background information of how wireless networking works.

Chapters four and five look at the hardware used in networking and how-to setup a home or office WI-FI network. If you need to quickly setup a wireless network theses are the chapters for you. The author does a good job at explaining the different configuration options which the user has to choose from. This allows the user to choose which networking setup will work best for that particular user. Chapters six through eight focuses on ways of connecting to an access point with Windows, Mac, Linux or Unix. The author teaches the user how to use the different wireless tools out there no matter which operating system you use. I am happy to see a chapter on Linux where the author explains everything to the Linux user everything, which they need to connect to any wireless network. The author even explains the wireless device drive Linux users will need.

Chapter 9 brings to light all the details of setting up a wireless network. The reader will learn how to setup an access point and have a greater understanding of the different technologies used here. The author even goes into detail on how the user can setup a neighborhood network. An important step in setting up any wireless is security and the author states some of the different methods of increasing your wireless security when setting up a wireless access point.

Chapter 12 which I believe is the most important chapter in wireless networking is wireless network security. The author explains the differences between the different methods of increasing a wireless network. I liked how the author explains why users should use one method over another. This chapter is for any user that is wondering what are the differences between WEP and WPA and which one they should use. The author even goes into detail about how to use the firewall on your router to increase your network security and health. This chapter is a must read for anyone who has a wireless network.

Chapter 17 is for the user that is in charge of setting up their wireless network and has found a problem with it. The author goes into detail some of the common problems the user may come across.

In conclusion, if you or anyone you know has a wireless network or is planning on setting up one, "The Book of Wireless" is a valuable resource to read. You will gain a better understanding of wireless networking. No matter which operating system you are using, you will be able to connect and setup a secure wireless network in no time.

A powerful piece of Wi-Fi

Review Date: March 10, 2010
Reviewer: James A. Gonzalez, FINDLAY, OH, US
The antenna alone is a strong piece of equipment for its price. From my position in my double insulated apartment this has picked up many signals but the main one I was previously using from my Acer 1One netbook has gave me full power instead of very weak. The installation is very simple but if your not using a disk drive then it can be a little work. As I had to search for the driver and gain a little more information on the details of the antenna, I finally found my driver. Once the driver was set in I was amazed by the strength I was gaining and the more connections that I've found. I may not say this is the strongest as this is my first antenna owned, it does hold a lot of power for it's price and size. It even works great mobile as I have taken this on trips and found the same power held from my apartment. I give this an 8/10 based on this being my first one and how much power I am gaining. I will finally add the simple USB connection is very compatible with any device with a disk readable operating system and is a great tool for those wanting to jump on the next gen of free media.

Had trouble reaching Wifi signal. This antenna made it work and was an easy install.
It worked....Kinda

Review Date: March 10, 2010
Reviewer: John von Lange,

Well I purchased this because I'm currently deployed, they have a WiFi signal that we can access outside but with the summer months coming I was looking for a way to avoid the heat a little easier. This worked....kinda, it got a great signal....but only after I spent 3-4 hours fighting with it, trying to find out why it would keep cutting out, dropping the network, or not connecting at all.

The problem is the USB cord that comes with it is very cheap and does not stat connected, I was able to borrow a mini USB cord to test it from someone I know, and it worked perfect. Now I have to wait another two weeks to get my own USB cord.

The seller was a little shady, I received an email the day after I ordered the item saying it was shipped, no tracking available. I was ok with that, going APO I know most sellers dont use tracking. Then almost a week later, I get another email, your item has been shipped with a tracking number. So I had to wait 1.5 weeks to get my item, I purchased something a couple of days later and due to there fast shipping had it before this order.

With all that being said, would i buy another yes, but I would also make sure I order an extra USB cord and find another seller next time.
a little difficult setting it up, but it works great

Once I figured out how to "get it going," it has worked very well. My prior wireless adapter worked ok, most of the time. The Alfa keeps the speed high and signal strength strong. Downloads are faster compared to the prior adapter, which did not always keep the signal strength strong and was not always fast. The Alfa's "regular" antenna can connect with several other modems in the neighborhood, although I would feel like I were stealing, if I were to connect with someone else's wireless setup. I would recommend the Alfa for most buyers. The only folks who might not benefit are those with very poor computer "set up" skills. I probably have slightly below average "set up" skills and it took me awhile to figure out the instructions.
Really Unbelievable

Was skeptical as others, but this thing works. Easy installation. My router is in my house. The computer I was connecting to is in the basement of a 120 year old barn with earth and stone walls surrounding it...600ft away from the house. I was about to do point-to-point for about $300. No need. I get 70% signal and I could probably do better if I purchased a good router.
Great product.

These are the best ear buds for comfort and activity. What I like about the way they twist/lock into your ear (and you are given a variety of size disks to make sure it fits your ears) is that they don't fall out yet they are not jammed into your ear and are kind of comfortably lose. I wear them skiing, skating and hiking. You can still wear sun glasses and hats comfortably; All those sport ear buds that hook over the ear or wrap around the back of the head interfere with glasses and hats.

Now that I have switched to wearing a helmet for skiing they are still comfortable, I just changed to the smaller loser disks since the helmet ear pads hold them in for me.

The sound quality is amazing but since they are not in-ear or noise-canceling don't expect them to block out noisy environments so they are not great for airplanes or subways where there is a lot of mechanical noise but they are decent for blocking out other music or people talking.

When you can get these on sale for under $30 they are an amazing bargain!
won't fit most ears

This product didn't fit in my ear. Although designed for runners or those active in sports, it doesn't work as the manufacturer says. It is very uncomfortable. Seems like a durable product, but of little use if it doesn't fit your ears.
Sounds Good but they don't fit MY ears

I have been a recreational / fitness runner for a coupleyear but this is the first year that i'm "going big" and training for a 25k and then a marathon 4 months later. I knew I'd be buying alot of shoes putting on 40+ miles a week but I didnt' think i'd be going through headphones like I am now. I've tried all kinds of headphones and had the best luck with sony earbuds with the silocone (not the foam) tips. Only problem is, they last about 6 or 8 weeks and then one and then both of the buds stops playing sound.

Anyway, i search and seached and these MX85's keep coming up as being great for running and staying in the best (which is still a problem with the sony's). I got then and I've tried every combination of the tips and they will not fit in my ear. I think it would be more comfortable to shove a rock in there than try to hold it. Bad news is i can't return them since they are considered "in ear." but I'm trying to contact the manufacturer and see what they can do. Now I could just have terribley mis-shapen ears too because i can't get apple's buds to stay in for a second in my ears...literally.

I know there not as safe because they block the noise, but i'm going back to the in-ear buds wit the silocone tips. But, I might try the Etymotic ER6 once they go on sale again.
Best bet !

This is my 2nd pair of senheiser sport earphones. The first was the cheaper version of the same series (green one).I lost those (must have dropped off my jacket pocket..darn!). Anyways,as you already figured, these earphones had enough appeal in them to demand a 2nd purchase.

Let me cut to the chase,

Pros:- Good sound quality.Contrary to several comments on bass issues n stuff, I find the overall audio throughput good enough to boost your adrenaline at the gym. Coming from someone who owns a Bose QC2 and a Koss studio headphone, you get the point.

Good fit.I have tried doing pretty much everything with these guys on - running, skipping, pull ups, push ups, crunches and of course some serious lifting. They never let go! If you are capable off shrugging them off your ears, you need to be in the olympics!
You have different sizes of rubber stoppers to choose from depending on the size of your ear, and they plug right under the top of your inner ear lobe without causing any discomfort.

Good length.I normally wear them under my tshirt with the cable running down my back. They are lengthy enough to provide that extra flexibility for any complex moves you perform.

Cons:- The cable although lengthy, tends to coil like a spring. It is not a problem for the patient soul, but if you are the type who does not like to untangle things, you have a good 30 seconds to spell out a mouthful.

Tendency to get lost! Just kidding, thats about it folks. These guys are a good investment and a great companion at the gym. Get a pair without any 2nd thoughts!

ps: If you don't mind the striking green color, go for the cheaper MX75 ones.I did not see a great deal of difference between the two.

Cheers!
Perfect solution for running or any other activity

I am a runner and I have tried 5 different types/brands of earphones with no success. The earphones would always fall out on a run or they wouldn't fit my ear. These finally worked and they were worth the money. I bought them a couple of weeks ago. I have been running both on a treadmill and outside in wet conditions. I have had absolutely no problem. It's a little tough to get the twist-to-fit earbud in the correct way the first time, but once you figure it out they are a quality pair of earphones.

The sound quality is good. Obviously it's not perfect, but it is definitely above average. If you get the earphones in correctly the bass is good as well.

I saw some comments about the orange color being too bright. Fear not...it's actually not that bright.

My recommendation...buy it.
